CRAFTING TRADITION WITH A TWIST
Deborah's love for table settings began early in the South, where she was taught that every detail matters. From the coasters to the linens, everything has a purpose in creating a warm, welcoming space. Her appreciation for American tradition and her eye for design paved the way for her future. Deborah studied textile and weaving at Rhodes College and the University of Memphis, where she honed the skills that would later become central to her creations.
FROM FASHION TO TABLETOP
Deborah’s career took a bold turn when she entered the fashion world in New York City during the 1980s. She launched a successful accessories line, gaining international recognition for her hats, scarves, handbags, and more. Alongside her husband and business partner, Paul, she ran a 10,000-square-foot studio in the heart of the Garment District, working with some of the most talented pattern makers and seamstresses in the industry. Despite their success, the fast-paced, trend-driven nature of the fashion industry left Deborah feeling creatively constrained. Inspired by Martha Stewart’s rediscovery of traditional crafts, she transitioned from fashion to home decor, launching Deborah Rhodes Table Top. Her iconic braided placemat, made from a unique easy-care material, marked the start of her journey in tabletop design.

Deborah’s curiosity and passion for quality craftsmanship took her on journeys across the globe. From the Philippines to Vietnam, Taiwan to Haiti, she sought out artisans and materials that reflected her love for vibrant culture and unique craftsmanship. Each new place inspired fresh ideas and new creations. It was in Lithuania, on a trip to adopt her two daughters, that Deborah discovered the linens that would become a signature part of her line. This journey wasn’t just about creating beautiful products—it was about connecting with the people and places that made them.
